Here's what to do if you are thinking about Rating up!!!
- Download the Standards of Proficiency and the Test Sheet for your level
from the Pony Club website .
- Read carefully the riding test expectations and the horse management expectations.
- Start learning the horse management knowledge you will need to pass your
test. You can learn this by:
- Reading the USPC Manual of Horsemanship.
- Reading other items and watching videos listed on the reading list on
the last page of the Standards of Proficiency. Some books/videos can be
borrowed from our Fox and Hounds library at Keneva Farms (contact Diana
Vallandingham at 856 467-4793), or from older Pony Clubbers. Or, they can
be purchased from the Pony Club Bookstore.
- Attending unmounted meetings.
- Attending Pony Club College.
- Working with your instructor.
- Asking an older Pony Clubber to help you.
- When we begin mounted meetings, tell your instructor that you would like
to take your rating test, and work with him/her to learn the riding requirements.
- Attend mounted meetings regularly. Your instructor cannot recommend you
for a test if he/she does not see you ride.
Your DC and Instructors will decide if and when you are ready to take your
rating test. They will let me know at least two weeks prior to the scheduled
testing date if you are eligible to test. They will contact you to confirm
the date and time of the test. (See FHPC Calendar for testing dates.)
On the day of the test, arrive early and well-prepared. Correct formal or
informal attire must be worn by any level C candidate, and should be worn by
D level candidates (exceptions may be made). Remember your Pony Club pin! Ponies
should be clean. Tack should comply with horse management rules, and be clean,
supple, and in safe condition.
